Getting to Gillen Beach
From Mint Croft, turn right as you head out on to the Geary road and continue along until you pass the cattle grid and reach the bus stop. At this junction, take a left and follow the road down through the hamlet of Gillen until you reach the end of the road. You can also drive this first bit and park near the road end at Gillen, taking care not to obstruct the turning area or any passing spaces.
Go through the gate at the end of the road, and continue on the track across the fields ahead. When a left turning is reached take it, following a track down towards a large barn near the coast. When this track meets another, go through the gate and keep left soon passing to the left of the barn. Beyond it there is a track junction high above the coastline, with a view over the bay of Loch Losait far below.
Turn left at this junction and follow the track as it descends steeply down to the bay, with a hairpin bend half-way down. Once at the bottom you can cut across the grass and down to the rocky shore below. When the tide is out, the beach becomes sandy in parts and can be a good spot for a swim.
